Starbucks for girls on prep

starbucks
I drink Starbucks every day. Close to my show, I’ll do 2x a day.  That’s my thing.  These are the things I love to order when I’m cutting.  You can make your own at home too. I have an espresso machine so often I will do my own.

Starbucks:

Iced coffee plus 1 scoop vanilla whey in the blender!
I love this. It’s fantastic!
Or
Icy Donut (my hubs created this one for me)

Grow Booty: The secret to getting glutes

2019 update.

Do you want to get a lifted, round, peachy booty that salutes?  Are you working hard in the gym but you seem stuck? Do you feel like your results are NOT coming fast enough?
It’s important to know is that building glutes takes time and you must eat to get gains.
The process is not a  Pinterest 30 day squat challenge. It’s not a 6 week make over. It’s a long process with a lot of hard work. This is my growth from nearly 3 years.  Picture 1 is from my show in 2013. Picture two was 34 months later. Pic three is 3 years later. I’m 54 years old now. . I have worked hard for these gains. I ate a lot of good food and quite a bit of Captain Crunch Donut Cereal.  And if you didn’t know.. we are IIFYM so we eat what we want to grow that booty.

Don’t know what to eat to grow your booty? We got you!

insta
Instagram Lies
Do you need to ground yourself from Instagram? Are you feeling low because you don’t look like the Insta famous and their  dumb Shredz asses?  Do you feel like your changes should come over night?  Of course you do feel that way. I do too!  We have to stop and remember that we are natural body builders!  We have to eat the right amounts of macros for bulking/growing. Companies like Shredz are making lots of  money off photoshopped images. You must understand that glute implants, photoshop and other trickery are going to be used in marketing  because everyone is looking for a quick fix. Don’t fall for this!

Cutting grows nothing!
One thing to remember is:  You are NOT building muscle in a deficit. I compete every year which means I am cutting (active fat loss)   and losing some muscle for roughly 20 weeks of each year. If I were to build for a solid year, I might have gotten here sooner.  If you live in a deficit of calories so you can ‘stay shredded’ chances are you  aren’t really shredded plus you probably  haven’t been in the caloric surplus you need to build muscle.  EAT!

Training
Since January 2016, I have put the hurt on my glutes and trained in a new fashion. I am moving out of the bikini category into Fitness Model in my federation UFE.  UFEshows.com.  I want more of the Oxygen Magazine look anyway.  I used bulking macros for myself and many of my clients at the end of 2015 as we prepared for this spring season of cutting.

Jax

Jax started on my team  late  in 2014 in a size xxs in VSPINK. She grew that booty and placed in the top 10 out of 55 girls in NPC . She took another year, ate and lifted and is about to rock NANBF. Look at those booty gains. Jax was eating over 400 carbs a day this winter.  Pasta is her favorite.  Jax is a busy mom of 2 little girls and works 40+ hours a week! She knew what she had to do and she did it!  She built what she wanted!

Oh, hey.. there was no waist training, detox tea, magic supplements, magic wraps, gels,  lotions. No Kardashians were involved here. This was just science. Bad ass science, lifting heavy shit and great food.   If you were looking for the secrets.. this was it.

Lovely and so sweet, Ash joined my team in late 2015. These are  her  booty changes in just a few months.  She just took 2nd place in her  first NPC show.
ashley
Her judges comments said she was spot on in her conditioning and physique!  The last picture is just 10 days before her show. Ash was willing to eat to grow even when it was hard! She lifted like a rockstar and when we cut her down.. bliss!
Her food favorite was Oreos!

Rowan is an amazing athlete. She is truly gorgeous inside and out! She started with me in July of 2015 and the March 29 picture is just a few days before she hit the stage with OCB.  She was willing to eat and grow!   She loves pancakes!  Oh.. how did she do??

rowan
Three wins for Rowan!  Oh boy, did she eat a lot of food in those months before we cut hard. No bro food.. She ate what she wanted. She put the work in and it paid off. She is now taking a full year to build for her next  NPC show in 2017. This athlete is on a mission.

Coach Ashley!

You can do it
If you have a goal to build your glutes.. dig in and commit to the time and macros it takes to do it. You have to be patient.  You must stop comparing your results to  others. You must be willing to eat in a surplus to get gains and you might feel fluffy!  So what. Get some stretchy pants and rock them!  We get it. We are here to support you! Three cheers for strechy pants!

My blog has so many of my glute moves here but if you need help… I can help you!
If you are a competitor looking for a team home, check out SleekBikiniTeam!  We might be a good fit.

We also have lifestyle training and would love to help you!  You can work with these coaches! www.sleekbodyonline.com

Competition 101: Read this before you quit your show.

britprep

So you have been prepping for your show and right now you want to quit.

Trust me I have been there!  If you discover that competing isn’t for you, I get it. Maybe you are on the fence. Maybe you need some tough love and strategies.

PREP
First of all, during prep, there are a lot of emotions.  Being a competitive body builder is hard. It’s HARD. It doesn’t matter if you’re bikini, figure or body building, it’s incredibly demanding.  That is what sets us apart from fitness seekers.

Reasons you might find yourself wanting to quit.
1. Restricted dieting.
As you get further into prep, the food gets harder. Even doing flexible dieting you still have to be leaning and that means eating less.
I typically question why I ever started competing when I see people leaving Quik Trip with bags of treats. What did I do? They look happy. I am dying. Sometimes I actually get angry!

2. Schedule:  Contest prep training schedule is very demanding.  We all have to work, tend to our families and obligations.  I am up sometimes at 3:30am for my workouts. Many people have to carve out the time to make it happen.  It can be very overwhelming and exhausting.

3.  Fear of not making it. I usually quit 3 or 4 times per prep. The worst times are at about 5 weeks out. I lose it.  I just know I won’t make it. It’s not worth it. I’m hungry. I’m tired. I’m sick of whatever.  Then I cry and refocus.   I also freak out when I get my new suit and it doesn’t fit.  About 3 weeks out I break down in the gym and cry then I get my eye of the tiger back.   So much of prep is mental.  We all already know how to lift.

4. Negativity from those who are close to us.
When others question you, it’s easy to question yourself.  Frankly, body building is a lonely sport. You often train alone, eat alone.  If your friends/family are critical or not understanding it is very hard to sustain the drive to succeed.

Let’s just say.. the bloom has fallen off the rose.

5. Derail
If you end up having a weak moment and derail, that may cause you to want to quit altogether.

I want to share with you some things that helped me considerably in my preps.  Let me explain how they were different.

My first show prep was adrenaline driven. The show was ALL I thought about. It was  my everything. I had zero balance. I feel like this is common with a lot of competitors in their first show. It’s actually pretty awesome. It doesn’t mean it isn’t grueling, or you aren’t hungry. It’s just different.
Stepping on stage after that prep is a high I cannot begin to explain.

Subsequent preps I try to do with more purpose. I work hard in off season to bring up lagging parts, improve my physique each time. Prep is now very different.

body
Thank you for this!

I, in fact have a love/hate relationship with prep.   I think it’s incredibly grueling  and requires much more focus and strategies than adrenaline.

Mistake number one
cheatmeals
I don’t want to be perfect. I want to eat. Ice cream is all I can think about.. Why am I doing this?
Do NOT throw everything away for a cupcake. If you are truly, at wits end because of the food, try to find something in your macros that will feel treat like.  What I know is after a free-for-all food binge, many clients suffer with remorse.  A weak moment can wreck your prep mentally! Trust me.     Problem solve! Talk to your coach.
Remember:

me

A betchy word about discipline and commitment and being elite.
Discipline and  following through on what you said you would do is an elite quality.  Every lay person who fails at a diet proves this point. Yes.. that was super betchy.  I’m not speaking to fitness seekers who need help with their diet. Competitive athletes set them selves apart from fitness seekers by choice and by their actions..  I’m not being touchy feely here and  I’m not apologizing. Wanting to drink with your friends and throwing your whole training away for that is NOT what athletes do.  Sometimes you flat out have to remind yourself  YOU set yourself apart from the other fitness seekers.  Level up!

Before you quit: Ask yourself these questions.
1. Will you feel remorse or relief?
2. Are you quitting for someone else? Because of pressure from others?
3. On the day of your show, will you be upset that you are not there?
4. What will be different when you officially quit? Do you have a plan?

Sometimes I just need to accept that I feel this way and refocus.

How I focus
First and foremost: Reminding myself I chose this journey.

I also want to remind myself I can finish  this project …

1. Knowing I am capable to do what needs to be done. Fear has no place here!

2. Knowing my food will be colorful. I will eat things I like and that are fulfilling because I choose the right things to forward this process. My health is important to me!

3. Knowing that it’s going to be very hard sometimes but I will prevail. 🙂

4. Knowing that skipping the struggle isn’t an option.

5. Knowing that I’m going to feel weary, and want to quit but I won’t.

6. Visualizing myself being on stage with my best package.

7. Knowing that others will question me not support me, be rude, comment on my body/food or try to make me feel like it’s ok cheat on my plan. I will prevail because my goals are important.

8. Knowing that everything that tempts me, will be there after my show.

9. Knowing that this challenge is something that very few people actually complete and that I can do it.

10.Knowing there will be times when I doubt myself, feel I won’t be ready, feel I’m not going to do well . I will push past that with the mindset that I am bringing my best. Negative self talk is out of place.

11. Knowing that I can give 100 percent to this goal every single day. I will be disciplined when desire/motivation fails me.

stop
Stop trying to skip the struggle:
So, in my last prep,  I realized that I’m pretty much,  always wishing I could skip the struggle. It’s not an option.  Did I embrace it and work  through it?  Sometimes. Sometimes I was just angry and questioned why I ever really wanted to compete.  Once that light came on for me, I really found myself pulling it out at the end. This is typical Tracy fashion. Getting out of the comfort zone is like me jumping off a cliff willingly.
hmmm..
Sometimes I wish I was flying blind again like I was in my first show. However, I have learned a lot about myself.  I find the challenge of prep the thing I  most appreciate about doing this sport. My goal is always to bring a better package but now I also have a goal to perfect my prep each time.  I grow an incredible amount during this process. It is worth it on the other side because I prevail on the challenges I set for myself.   When I step on stage, no one knows all of this, no one cares. It’s my journey.

I encourage you  pause and make peace with the rest  of your journey whatever it is. The internal struggle is by far the hardest thing about prep. Every prep.

I believe we can push ourselves far beyond what we think is possible. Whatever you decide I wish you luck in your journey!

Prepping Not Starving:Sweet Potato Protein Pancakes

pancake

I’m a bit of a creature of habit. I’ve had protein pancakes for breakkie since 2012.
I like them!

I was having a conversation with one of my friends/competitor clients.  We both agreed that food prep is “meh”.   So when I tell you I had to bake sweet potatoes for this, that’s about the extent of my prep.  If I’m home, I will toss 5 or 6 into the oven. I keep them in the fridge for pancakes!

Note to the clean eating mafia: Hurray.. these are full of amazing magic sweet potatoes.
egg whites and oatmeal! #BroCoachApproved

How I bake Sweet Potatoes
Step 1: Turn the oven on to 450 degrees. Set your timer for 45 min.
Line your cookie sheet with tinfoil so you don’t have to scrub it!
Put your washed sweet potatoes on the sheet and bake them until they ooze caramel.

*never microwave sweet potatoes. So yucky.

Pancake is:

3/4 cup pourable egg whites
4 oz sweet potato

Mix it in your ninja.
Spray your pan and make a pancake. It’s not easy to flip. It might get messy.

Macros without syrup

4oz

Here it is with 4 oz IHOP sugar free syrup .
ihop

Just to mix it up. Here is 2 oz sweet potato and 20g quick oats
oats

If you add the syrup, you could add less. 1/2 cup is a lot of syrup.
You can modify the amount based on the carbs you have to work with. Since I typically lift in the morning, this recipe with syrup is a great pre-workout with 39 carbs.

We make double recipe every single day and this is meals 1 and 2 for me.
I don’t mind eating pancakes all day!

If you want to up your fats, fiber, toss in some flax or chia. Just sayin..
This pancake smells awesome. It tastes awesome and you can add spices or SF coffee syrup to create something YOU love.

Say it with me. No. More. Gagging. On . Egg Whites!

Competition 101: Master your prep mindset

britprep
If you have been training hard and have a show picked out, you will be starting your “prep” about 12-16 weeks out from your show date. Perhaps you are sick of feeling fluffy and ready to get lean! I get that!! This is very very  exciting. It’s mind blowing how quickly things just got real.

You are officially just weeks away from stepping on stage! OMG!

I want to share with you some things that helped me considerably in my preps.  Let me explain how they were different.

I’ve had coaches in the past tell me to  go eat whatever I wanted right  before prep  because it’s the last meals I would get for 16 weeks. I hate starting like that. I’m immediately feeling deprived and my focus is on what I am going to miss out on, not what I’m gaining. I do not ever want to start prep, bloated,  and mad at myself for a “sanctioned binge”.

Going straight from several dessert runs to turkey chicken and fish effected me negatively. It reminded me of all the “I’ll start my diet on Monday so I may as well eat everything I want” experience.  This is NOT how I want to start an competitive training schedule.

How I focus

Competition 101: Which shoes are best for stage?

elliebrookshoe
brook
If you are new to bikini/figure competitions, you may be curious as to which shoe is best for stage.  There are so many styles and many of them look similar.

This is the correct shoe! It is by the company “Ellie” and the shoe is Brook.
Specs:
Color: Clear

  • Heel measures approximately 4.75″
  • Platform measures approximately 0.75″
  • Pig leather insole
  • Heel measures approximately 5 inches, platform 0.75 inches
  • Available in whole sizes only. Half size order upThis shoe fits true to size!! I love it. You will see most competitors wear this exact shoe.Where should I get it?
Amazon.com has this exact shoe for about $25.
You can do a google search for it, but you will get lots of different Brook/Brooke Styles and heel heights.
Be sure the specs are the same as above. This is not an expensive shoe.Benefits:
The base of this exact shoe is perfect. Your toes don’t dangle over the end. Some shoes that ‘look’ like it have a more narrow base.

It’s seriously  comfortable the minute you put it on for the first time.

It’s easy to walk in. Seriously easy to walk in.
    Confidence level.. sky high!

    When should I order shoes?
Now. If you have decided to compete, don’t wait another minute. Order your shoes! Having your shoes makes it real. You need to practice walking too.

Do I have to ‘break them in’?
I didn’t have to at all. They are awesome. Fit’s like a dream from day 1 to stage. Even as I lost body fat, I just tightened the straps.

Shouldn’t I get a strapless shoe? Straps make my legs look fat?
My first coach told me that.  That’s weird.  I had strapless shoes and my toes fell out over the toe of the shoe.  I like this better. You can get what you want unless your federation says differently.

UPDATE 2016  I have had 2 pairs of these in the last year. I practice a lot in my shoes so I blew them out. I’m not going to lie, I bought an extra pair with me to my last show.  However, I jumped on Amazon and had them the next day.

    I want shoes with crystals.
You can add your own if you like. I stoned my shoes in 2013.
I actually bought this pair from Amazon too.
I thought it would be good.

shoeI actually did not wear these in 2015 but I did in 2016. They were great.

Funny story: A girl at a show I worked, had a broken strap on her shoes. She said it broke a few weeks before the show but she was too lazy to get a new pair. Her body was banging but she walked like she was hobbled. Her T walk was  terrible. I can’t even!

I wish you much luck in your competition!!

Competition 101: Let’s pick a bikini!

Bikini Competitions are the “new wedding”!!   I spent more time selecting all my suits than I actually did selecting my wedding gown 20 years ago.   If you are new to competing, it might seem overwhelming.  Have no fear!! This is the fun part!

What kind of suit do I need for my bikini competition?
If you are doing bikini, the suit you will buy will be like these!

18952540_1688915754455114_4112817159297156624_n
You can see that suits come in all colors and styles.
They are two pieces and have connectors . Most girls have their suits custom made but many designers have ready to go designs available. They come in all price ranges.

If you are FIGURE, your suit will look like this.
coach j
Figure suits are connected and cross in the back. . This girl looks awesome.
If you are a figure girls, this is the suit you will buy. It can be blingy, very blingy, plain, OMG or in between.

You need to know!
small-cuts-2018-full-copy-blue.jpg
The bottom cut of your suit will depend on the federation you compete in.
You will check with your coach or federation guidelines on their website  for more details. NPC will be a much smaller cut.
Many natural federation like NANBF require the moderate back.
UFE bottoms should cover 30 percent of the glute. You can go with Standard back.
If you are doing shows in different federations, you can order two bottoms with your top.

When do I order?
Typically, suits are ordered 8 weeks out from your show. Some designers require more time because of stoning or volume of work load during the show season. You will find that info on their website.  If you need it, many designers have a ‘quick ship’ or quick turnaround for an additional charge.

I’m so excited, I want to order it now.
Please don’t. We have seen time and time again that jumping the gun will bite you in the booty. If you are 8 weeks out the designer will know how to cut it for show. Most ladies who pulled the trigger early had to have their bottoms remade because they looked like a diaper. You have no idea how tiny you will be at show. They won’t fit until right before your show.

Ack. there is a sale and I want it.
You could pay your designer for your suit and place the order 8 weeks out.

Where will I find designers/suits to look at?I love Instagram! If you look for #competitionbikinis, #competitionsuits, you will find some amazing designers!
Google will give you some great results too, but you’ll miss out on some of the newer designers. I say.. use IG!

Glamfitbikini’s has the coolest IG page on the planet. @Glamfitbikini
They get big ups for color coding their entire feed. They are in Australia but ship to the US.
glamfit

Katkinis has some beautiful suits!

The connectors!!
 Another cool designer is @Bikini_voronina_Official

How much should I spend?
I bought my first suits from RavishSands.com. They are amazing to work with. There are so many price points when you are selecting your suits. Pricing can depend on amount of stones, upgrades in stone colors and connector choices. You can spend as much as you want!

This one is mineeeeeeeeeee!
This one is mineeeeeeeeeee!

I’ve had suits that were very blingy but this year I went with the stretchy sequins !I bought my suit this year from a picture I saw on IG! @crystallinibikini/   I paid $180 for it and it’s  my favorite suit! I actually felt that the stretchy sequin fabric was a better fit for my implants! I had some trouble with my stoned suits coming up .  I love the connectors. Sequins looked great on stage too!

You can also buy plain suits and stone them yourself if you are up to the challenge!!

MuscleDazzle.com
My new obsession this year is Muscle Dazzle. I saw a girl at my last show with a fantastic suit from them. It came in a pretty sleeper box! Their prices are fantastic!

md

Can I borrow or rent or buy a gently used suit?
Sure. Facebook has a great group of ladies on the Figure/physique, bikini competitors ‘buy and sell’ board.
TameeMarie.com rents her suits out as well. They go fast though. You should watch her FB page too.

Does color/style matter to judges?
Tamee Marie her self told me that blondes in pink suits is cliche.  I don’t know. I’ve been to lots of shows and the ONE thing I do know is.. the total package matters. If you pick a suit that makes you feel awesome, look awesome and you rock it, that counts for a lot.  I love blingy suits on stage, the lights make them look amazing but I’ve also seen girls with plain suits win.  Oddly, a girl won in bikini wearing a figure suit at one show. I don’t even know how that worked out, but my guess is ‘suits’ aren’t the thing that makes the judges pick you over another girl.

Suit designers I like
RavishSands.com
They are very very good! This year, they remade my old suit bottoms to fit the federation I was competing in. I sent them the bottoms and they had them back promptly! Great customer service too. I have had amazing luck with them.

Crystallini Bikini (Ellen is your girl).

I got my suit! It doesn’t fit!
If  you are a girl who has to lean out for stage, your suit may not fit until the last week. If you try it on 3 weeks out and you still have work to do, try not to panic. It will fit! The designers are good at their job!

I wish you much luck!!

xoxo

UFE Halloween Mayhem show

This is the stage and a bit of our competitor meeting before the show.

I competed in Masters Bikini at the UFE Halloween Mayhem at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) in Chicago.
This was really one of the best shows I’ve done. I enjoyed it very much. It had a Halloween costume portion also.
Unfortunately, I was confused on that and didn’t bring one. The girls at Fitworld Tan created a costume for me on the fly so I wouldn’t look like total jerk.  I am grateful.

ufe1
The mister and I left the hotel and headed to the venue. I’m rocking my Team Sleek tank! Representing my girls. We are over 100 strong all over the world!
ufe2
Heading into the venue with my lucky suitcase, 6 pack cooler. I’m ready.
ufe5
The green room for this show.. OMG. It had lighted mirrors. It was nice and big and it had a bathroom for us as well. Best venue to date! The promoters had water and cookies for us too! We went straight into our meeting.
ufe4
Our meeting took place on the stage. This stage was FANTASTIC.  After our meeting my group was called to line up. Unfortunately, I did not get glued into my suit before I went out on stage. That was a bummer. I did my best to get something down but time didn’t permit.

For Masters Bikini the age range was 35 and  up. I am 50. I am the oldest bikini competitor in this show.
We did a T-walk in the pre judging and waited on the pink line behind me.

We walked to the front of the stage.

We went through a very quick round of quarter turns. Then left the stage. This was the fastest judging I’ve ever done.
We were off the stage and I was actually done until the night show.

The night show was really fun. I did not place in the top 3 for this show. I’m very happy with the package  I brought to the stage. I weighed 131 pounds on stage. I’m 5’8″. I have not weighed this little since I was 11 years old. I think everyone thinks you look huge on stage but competitors are actually itty bitty.

I worked for 16 months to be in this show. I did my best! The thing I focused on was to improve my physique from last season. I definitely did. I am self coached and IIFYM. My last shows were Bro and I was miserable.
I will say that I had the best prep I’ve ever had. I learned so much!  I have already begun working on my 2016 game plan.
I wish you luck in your shows!! Thanks to UFE for having me.

UFE Halloween Mayhem Check in

ufe
The mister and I woke up early Friday the 23 and began our 5 hour drive to Chicago.
The trip took 6.5 hours because of all the peeing I had to do. It’s all good.

The Host Hotel
We have never traveled for a show before. I would typically recommend you stay at the host hotel simply because the tanning and makeup vendors would be on site as well as your Friday night check in. Often the Polygraph testing is at the host hotel as well.  They will often have a good rate for you. They will also give you instructions as to what to bring to protect the hotel property from your crazy tan. We brought our own sheets.

Tanning

I’ve been super fug all week. Prepping my skin and rarely in makeup. I was exhausted when I got to the tanning appointment.  I liked the girls at Fitworld Tanning a lot. They were very cool to me all weekend.  Tanning takes a good hour or more. You’re naked and people will be walking around you. If you can tan at the venue, that’s a great idea.
Your tan makes a difference in your overall appearance. Fitworld also did my hair makeup so I just purchased the entire package.  I worked 16 months to do THIS show.. I wasn’t going to skimp on anything.

Check in

Our check in was easy!  We met our show’s promoters and got our numbers.

The mister. Man.. he just helps me so much. By the time we were done with check in, I passed out and he went to Kuma’s Corner for a burger.
